The European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EU BC&E) ranks as one of the top world leading events in the Biomass sector, combining a highly respected international Conference with an Industrial Exhibition.

  • It highlights progress in research, technological development and production processes.
  • It brings together all key specialists to make it the most important international platform for dialogue between research, industry, research and industry, and policy in the biomass sector.
Fraunhofer IWES Kassel Director, Prof. Dr. Clemens Hoffmann appointed as Conference General Chairman of EU BC&E 2014

Prof. Dr. Clemens Hoffmann is the Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES in Kassel, a position he took up on 1st October 2012. At the same time he also gained a professorship at the University of Kassel.

After studying physics at Hamburg University in the 1980s, he was awarded a PhD in 1992 at the Max-Planck-Institute in Garching for his thesis on plasmaphysics. He remained at the Max-Planck-Institute working in the field of nuclear fusion until leaving to take up a managerial position at Siemens AG in 1995.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the “Forum für Zukunftsenergien”, and is fully committed to the success of the Energiewende. His Institute has been carrying out research in the field of renewable energy supplies since 1988.

“We need conferences like this one. We need dialogue among experts in order to become aware of the manifold interdependencies of our individual research fields. [...] The structure of this conference intends to take care of this ‘system’ issue. The conference offers plenary sessions every day as well as parallel special sessions both early in the morning and in the afternoon grouped into the following topics: Biomass resources, Biomass conversion technologies for energetic use, Biomass conversion technologies for material use, Biomass policy.

I look forward to welcoming you to this conference and inviting you to share in the overall development of our field. In order to be successful in all sectors of development - electricity, heat and transport - the ongoing transformation towards an environmentally compatible energy supply system needs: “The Bio-Factor” says Prof. Dr. Clemens Hoffmann in his Welcome Message.
