General Information about Lyon and the Conference Venue
The Rhône region never leaves anyone indifferent – the contrasts of its landscapes and Beaujolais vineyards constantly surprise. Located at the confluent of the Rhône and the Saône, Lyon is proud of its 2000 years of history. France’s second city, Lyon is an international metropolis, offering an original trip back in time and through cultures. UNESCO has recognised the exceptional nature of Lyon by listing its historical centre as a World Heritage site.
The 18th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition will take place at the Cité Internationale, the tangible result of one of Lyon's most ambitious projects located between the Rhône and the Parc de la Tête d'Or. This luminous, transparent and functional “city in a city” has been designed by the contemporary architect Renzo Piano in following the curve of the river. The Cité Internationale offers a completely new concept of urban development, serving both environmental and economical growth.
