Linneborn Prize 2013 - Prize conferred to Prof. Liisa Viikari

- 2013 winner: Liisa Viikari, University of Helsinki
This accomplishment is being awarded on the occasion of the 21st European Biomass Conference and Exhibition. The Johannes Linneborn Prize was established in 1994 to honour scientific, technical or managerial merit in the development of energy from biomass, attained over a long period of continuous achievements. The Prize is named in honour of Johannes Linneborn, a pioneer of wood gasification. Deeply rooted in human ethics, he had far-reaching visions on the world's development, on health, transport and agriculture.
The 2013 winner is Professor Liisa Viikari for her extensive work on lignocellulosic ethanol, enzymatic hydrolysis and biorefineries.
Liisa Viikari started in 2007 as invited professor on Biorefineries at the University of Helsinki. Previously, she acted as research professor at VTT Biotechnology.
Her professional background is in industrial biotechnology; especially in basic and applied enzymology for exploitation and upgrading of renewable lignocellulosic resources. Her major interest has been to promote the utilization of biotechnical methods in process industries, especially in pulp and paper, chemical and energy sectors.
Her list of publication comprises about 130 original peer reviewed articles, reviews or book chapters and about 30 patents or patent applications.
