Awards for the best Visual Presentations
Considered as one of the main features of the Conference in which the most outstanding visual presentations were awarded. The award giving procedures were based on the quality of the contents reported and on the quality of the presentation. The international Scientific Committee coordinated by David Baxter and Jean-Francois Dallemand, has nominated 5 candidates for the 21st EU BC&E Student Awards in recognition of their high level of achievement and contribution to their respective fields of research. The Awards have been delivered during the Conference Closing Session. The student awardees have been invited to make short summary presentations of their work...discover the winners
This accomplishment is being awarded on the occasion of the 21st European Biomass Conference and Exhibition. The Johannes Linneborn Prize was established in 1994 to honour scientific, technical or managerial merit in the development of energy from biomass, attained over a long period of continuous achievements. The Prize is named in honour of Johannes Linneborn, a pioneer of wood gasification. Deeply rooted in human ethics, he had far-reaching visions on the world's development, on health, transport and agriculture.

Wim Van Swaaij received the Linneborn Prize Special Award
This Linneborn Prize Special Award has been delivered to Wim Van Swaaij.
Wim Van Swaaij studied Chemical Engineering Sciences and obtained his PhD at the Technical University in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. From 1965 to 1972 he worked for Shell Research BV for two years in Nancy (ENSIC) but mainly in Amsterdam, on fluidization, reaction engineering and process development. His last position was section leader gasification processes. In 1972 he became full professor of Chemical Engineering Sciences and later of Biomass at the University of Twente where he (co-) authored over 500 scientific papers, several handbooks and was promotor of 60 Ph.D. students...read more
